THIRD TIME LUCKY!

After postponements in 2020 and 2021 Opera Australia is finally set to debut it new production of Der Ring des Nibelungen in Brisbane in December 2023. The production will be directed by Chinese director Chen Shi-Zheng who will explore Wagner’s legendary tale through a futuristic lens, using towering, moving digital panels to create an immersive virtual world.

The performances will be conducted by experienced Ring conductor Philippe Auguin. He leads a cast of international stars including Lise Lindstrom as Brünnhilde, Stefan Vinke as Siegfried and Daniel Sumegi as Wotan. The cast will be complemented by the Queensland Symphony’s Ring Cycle Orchestra, which will unite hundreds of musicians from across Australia.

For the Brisbane Ring 2023 the Wagner Society is offering a range of mix-and-match options to suit differing requirements. Please follow the steps below to construct your preferred package, and when you are ready to book you can cick on the button to the left to advise us of your preferences.

STEP 3 - Buy Aida Tickets (Optional)

Opera Australia will be performing Aida at the same time as the Ring and for the performance on 11 December 2023 we are holding an allocation of tickets in Premium, A and B Reserve categories. Please refer to the PRICING tab for the cost of Aida tickets.

Rydges South Bank is located in the heart of Brisbane’s arts and entertainment precinct with plenty of things to do in the vicinity of the hotel and is only minutes away from the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

In the morning of each Ring opera Peter Bassett will give an introductory talk to each of the four Ring operas setting the scene for the evening's performance.

Symposium
Half-day symposium
Half-day symposium, curated by Peter Bassett, including talks by Wagner scholars, members of the production team and orchestral musicians.
The pre-opera talks and the symposium will be given at the Queensland Museum Theatre which is close to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre and within walking distance of Rydges South Bank.

Payment Requirements

The following payments will be required in connection with your booking:

  • A deposit of NZ$150.00 per person is payable at time of booking
  • Ancillary Events - 15 July 2023
  • Balance due - 30 September 2023

The Wagner Society of New Zealand ('the Society') accepts bookings subject to the following conditions:

1. BOOKINGS

Bookings should be made via the online booking form. If you are having problems using this, please email the Society.

2. PRICES

Opera ticket and package prices are quoted in Australian Dollars. You will be advised at time of payment the equivalent amount due in New Zealand Dollars.

The Society reserves the right to amend the package prices due to unforeseen price fluctuations on some or all of the services offered.

Package prices have been calculated on the basis of no-profit for the Society. However, the prices do include a component to cover the local costs for the Tour Leader.

3. PAYMENT

A deposit is due at the time of booking. This deposit is used to pay deposits for hotels, opera tickets and other land arrangements to be made on your behalf.

Further payments will be required as stated in the booking confirmation you will receive from the Society. Members are asked to make payments promptly when requested.

All payments should be made by direct credit to the Society’s bank account, details of which will be advised when a payment is due.

4. CHANGES

The Society will endeavour to accommodate any changes requested by you, but you will be responsible for any additional costs resulting from the change.

5. CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS

The Society’s policy is to refund to you as much as it possibly can after it has obtained refunds from third-party suppliers and has deducted the cost of obtaining such refunds (cancellation fees, bank charges and exchange losses). Each of the third-party suppliers that the Society contracts with has different Terms and Conditions with the following applying to major components of the package:

  • Opera tickets: non-refundable after full payment
  • Accommodation: non-refundable within 30 days of check-in

If you need to cancel your booking please let the Society know as soon as possible and it will advise you of the projected cancellation costs before cancelling any of your bookings.

6. PASSPORTS, VISAS AND VACCINATIONS

It is your responsibility to be in possession of a passport valid for travel to Australia. You are also responsible for obtaining all necessary visas, inoculations and preventative medicines as may be required for the duration of the tour.

7. TRAVEL INSURANCE

It is strongly recommended that you are covered by comprehensive travel insurance for travel to Australia, which the Society recommends taking out at time of booking.

8. PARTICIPATION IN TOURS

This tour requires a MODERATE level of physical ability. Participants will need to be able to walk for 15-30 minutes unaided. Anyone suffering from illness or disability or undergoing treatment for any physical or medical condition should let the Society know so that any necessary arrangements can be made.
